Hi, fellow fabric enthusiasts! My name is Cynthia from @sewn_by_cynthia and I am on the blog today talking about the new Spring Woven Club Fabrics from Raspberry Creek Fabrics. I will focus on two of my favorite woven bases, Stretch Crepe and Rayon Challis, and pair them with some of my top pattern choices.
Spring is the time of the year when the world around us begins to come to life. The weather begins to warm and everything around us glows a bright and cheerful green. This is the very reason that a bright, Spring green is my favorite color. It just brightens my mood after a cold and dreary winter! It is also why I chose the Avocado Green and White Geometric Petal Stretch Crepe to sew for the blog. It has been quite rainy and dreary here lately and sewing bright and cheerful colors makes me so happy! I also really enjoy playing around and pairing fabrics with just the right patterns. So, first I’m going to show you the new Stretch Crepe Club fabrics for the Spring of 2024 and my top pick of a great pattern to pair with the print!
I love the drape of Stretch Crepe coupled with the stability that this fabric base provides. Even though this Crepe contains the tiniest amount of stretch (2%), it should still be considered a woven fabric and would only be suitable for patterns drafted for wovens. You might consider sizing down on some patterns, which is what I did with the Be Mine Top from Pattern Emporium. This pattern is my top pick for Stretch Crepe as it is a relaxed and flowy top, perfect for a polyester. Another wonderful feature of this fabric is that it is very wrinkle resistant and still looks so nice after wearing it all day!
My next pairing for you to consider is the Dusty Blue and White Negative Floral Print Stretch Crepe and the Sagebrush Top from Friday Pattern Company. I used a Stretch Crepe from last year’s Spring release for a Sagebrush and it is one of my all time favorite makes to date! You can also see how beautifully this fabric ruffles and how well it works when making your own bias tape.
This Deep Coral and White Linedrawn Daisy Floral would be so lovely in the Chalk and Notch Fringe Dress! This pairing is definitely on my list to sew this Spring. I have used a linen from RCF for the Fringe with the placket view but I think this fabric would be lovely in View B.
If you are new to sewing wovens and looking for a beginner friendly pattern, the Love Notions Harmony would be a great starting point! It is a very simple design and perfect for letting a fabric be the star. My choice is the stunning Purple, Green, Yellow, Royal Blue, Pink and Fuchsia Vintage Paisley Floral print in Stretch Crepe. This fabric definitely needs to take center stage!
The final new 2024 Club Fabrics Stretch Crepe release is the Coral, Dusty Blue, Ruse and Light Olive Floral print. This fabric gives me all the tropical vibes so a sundress just makes sense! A great choice is the Saltwhistle Top and Dress from Love Notions. Again, there is a simple view for beginner sewists or a tiered, ruffled option for the more adventurous sewists.
Rayon Challis is a true woven fabric: lightweight, cool and comfortable against the skin, it is an ideal fabric for Spring, Summer and even Fall. The 2024 Spring Club fabrics release feature gorgeous floral, geometric and abstract prints that lend themselves to so many types of garments. I really enjoy sewing soft and flowy tops with Rayon Challis, but it is also perfect for dresses and tiered skirts. As I did with the Stretch Crepe, I have also paired the new releases in Rayon Challis with my pattern pick.
The Tonal Blue, Green and Cream Hydrangea Floral print is so dreamy and can be worn well into the Summer months. It would be lovely sewn up as a Champagne Field Dress and Top by Matchy Matchy Sewing Club! The finishes on this pattern are top notch…I adore the ruffles at the shoulder.
Another soft and pretty green print, the Cream and Light Hunter Green Linedrawn Floral Print would make a gorgeous dress! My choice here is the Rhapsody Blouse and Dress by Love Notions. This pattern works perfectly in Rayon Challis! It is loaded with neckline and sleeve options and coupled with this print, would see a lot of wear in the Spring and Summer months.
In the hot and humid Southern US, one cannot have enough tank tops! This fun Grey, Lilac, Peach, Khaki, and Light Blue pebble print coordinates with so many solids and would look lovely alone or layered underneath a blazer. Looking for a not so basic tank top? The Trevi Top and Dress from Hey June Handmade features a button down back with a trapeze style silhouette.
I love floral prints but florals are not everyone’s cup of tea! If that is you, then you will love the Dusty Blue, Khaki, Cream and Mint Weathered Geometric Print in Rayon Challis. I have a couple of pattern recommendations for this print that I cannot choose between. I think both the Love Notions Ballad Blouse or Vivace Dolman would look lovely in this print!
Another option for anyone who is not drawn to florals but also loves a colorful print, the Yellow, Coral, Green, Mauve, Blue and Cream Abstract Floral is a great option! This print can be paired with jeans or olive work pants. This print would be adorable in the Dolly Top by The Dressmaker’s Closet. This is just the sweetest top,..and coming from a Tennessee girl, how could it not be with that name?
Need help finding the new Stretch Crepe and Rayon Challis prints for Spring of 2024? On the homepage of the website, click on Club Fabrics then choose to search by fabric type. Once you have chosen your fabric type, the site automatically sorts by Bestselling. At that drop down, choose “New to Old” instead and the newest prints will be first!
I hope I have given you good ideas to jumpstart your Spring sewing with wovens from Raspberry Creek Fabrics! Do you have a favorite fabric and pattern pairing that I should try? Let me know in the comments! Happy Sewing!
