Halloween Costume Inspiration with Amanda

Hey friends, it’s Amanda from LoveCraftSew on the blog today to bring you some inspiration for Halloween costume sewing!  When I think of store-bought costumes the words that immediately come to mind are  itchy, uncomfortable, cheaply made, not breathable and  ill fitting.  However, if you are a seamstress then you have the freedom to create costumes that break out of that stereotypical costume mold.  

When my daughter requested to be an elf (technically she requested to be a pixie without wings)  this year in a sparkly, twirly blue dress I inwardly cringed at the thought of itchy glitter making a mess everywhere and never being worn again after Trick or Treating.   I knew that using an everyday fabric to achieve this look would not only make her costume more comfortable but also more likely to be worn on more than one occasion!  

I decided to peruse the design library to look for a faux glitter fabric that would give the illusion of sparkle without the hassle and mess of real glitter.  My daughter loved the Royal Blue Faux Glitter from the CLUB library and we decided to print on the double brushed poly as that base is wonderful for a full coverage design.  Once we had decided on the fabric then the rest of the costume easily came together using the Raven pattern from Boo & Lu and elf ear accessories.

I love how easy it is to use everyday fabrics for costumes with the abundance of patterns in the design library and incredibly diverse fabric base options to print the fabric on.  This is such a great idea for making comfortable costumes that will be worn on repeat instead of thrown in the trash at the end of costume season.
