Thank you for checking out this colorful corner of the internet. This month, I had the opportunity to test out a new fabric base at Raspberry Creek - the Taslan! From the site, the 2-Ply Taslan Nylon is described as a lightweight woven fabric with a more matte and natural feel than typical slick nylon while offering the same durability nylon is known for. Water-repellent, abrasion-resistant, and wind-resistant yet breathable, and perfect for wind breakers.

I took this as an opportunity to mix and match a few colors and have fun playing fabric tetris. I got a yard of royal blue, mango, dark teal and red. The colors were gorgeous together so instantly I was struck with decision paralysis as the colorblocking options were endless! I turned a line drawing similar to the pattern I had for windbreakers and set my kids to work with markers to design their own jackets.

The end results were fabulous. The colors were bright and each jacket is stunning.

The final step was to add drawstrings. I was able to find a box of 24 pairs of shoestrings on Amazon for a few bucks. Of course I finished the jackets and wrote up the blog in the middle of a heatwave with not a single drop of rain in the forecast, so we will have to take the jackets for a spin in the next rainstorm and report back later!

The pattern used was the 07 - Kids Anorak by Hello Dear Kids on etsy. The Taslan sewed up very easily. I got the 2 ply for the blue, mango and teal but the red was 4 ply. The main difference was the 4 ply seemed to “shed” more and would benefit from running the cut edges through a serger first. I also had a tough time telling apart the right and wrong side so mark when cutting so that the right and wrong remain uniform throughout your project. I had to press several edges and had no issues melting the nylon in my mini press on medium heat. Taslan would be a great choice for your next raincoat or windbreaker. I highly recommend you give it a try!
