Hey everyone! Kristen here from Sunflower Seams Pattern Co and I am very stoked to be on the RCF blog today!

One of my 2022 Sewing Goals is to sew with different substrates throughout the year. I am one that gets so comfortable with quilting cotton and jersey, that I never really stray away from either of them. Different textures that other substrates offer can really give a garment (even in its simplest form) a unique and fun look! I felt that the Bright Rust Woven Double Gauze was the perfect fabric for this job!! The rust earthtone color is not season specific which makes it an excellent pick for anytime of the year.

We live in the beautiful Sunshine State which means we stay significantly warmer than most other parts of the Northern Hemisphere. Last week we were experiencing highs in the 80’s and this week we have highs in the 50’s. This pinball like weather makes having a set winter wardrobe basically impossible! I love creating pieces that can be layered for the colder days, but have the capability to be worn by itself on the warmer days. This method keeps closet sizes to a minimum and helps make sure that mommy made outfits get worn more than once!
Sunflower Seams Pattern Co’s Ash (https://www.sunflowerseams.com/product/ash/) (Baby Ash- https://www.sunflowerseams.com/product/baby-ash/) turned out to be the perfect pattern choice for this project! The rust double gauze is a lightweight fabric that when Ash is worn by itself, it is breathable and cool. But it’s lightweight nature also makes it perfect for having a onesie and even leggings layered underneath for optimal warmth (at least for the Florida cold- I know 50 degrees is laughable to most)!

The Ash made for this project is in its simplest form (no pocket) and yet, it still looks amazing thanks to the texture the double gauze offers! In case you didn’t read the fine print to your New Year’s Sewing Resolutions, double gauze is NOT included in the “I will sew my stash only” goal…… So get your double gauze order in today (hehe)!!
Thank you Raspberry Creek Fabrics for the opportunity to sew with this Rust Double Gauze!
Enjoy!
