This week, I got to sew up a print that I think is absolutely stunning, and it couldn’t be a more perfect time of year for a rich print like this. UtART has a gorgeous shop in the Designer Studios, with so many bold, realistic prints. I had a hard time choosing, but once I decided what pattern to make, I finalized it to this
print, “Vintage Night Roses Garden 13.” This is scaled up a bit from the listing scale. I put the slider to 20.
Once again, I love this feature in the Designer Studios! Any print, any substrate, and scale...your look could be wildly different from mine, even from the same print!
I asked which base would be best for printing black, and Diana recommended double brushed poly, or rib knit. I chose the DBP, and am so happy with how it printed!
This is the Westminster top from Styla patterns. It does not include the dress option, but I cut it off at the natural waist, and added a self drafted gathered circle skirt. I did this by cutting 2 half circles from my fabric, with a measuring tape, holding it in the middle, and then pivoting it around, so I could cut it all the
same length. For the second piece, I just laid the first one on top of my fabric, and cut around it. I measured the circumference of the bodice, and tried to cut the waist out with almost 2x that circumference, but I was fudging it, so it’s not exact!
I was really imaging using a fabric with more body, but since black printed best on DBP, I added horsehair braid to the hem. It elevates the look just a bit more. This will be so perfect for her piano recital, or any holiday event!
Go play around with UtART’s designs in the Designer Studios, and if you try something from her shop, I can’t wait to see it!
