The only activity Elise and I love almost as much as sewing and collecting pretty fabrics is baking. It keeps us close to my mother and grandmother that passed away when I was a young adult.

Elise outgrew her old apron and was in need of a new one. I thought that if I made us some nice aprons from very good quality fabric that this might improve our baking experience. It is also a great way to join together two of my favorite activities.
I wanted a fabric that is resilient and will last us a long time. The chambray definitely fits that criteria. It washes so well and surprisingly needs little or no ironing. It gets softer and more wonderful over time. I used the chambray fabric from the shop that I have bought in almost every color. My apron is Salmon Pink Chambray, while Elise’s apron is her favorite color, Bright Peach.
I chose this free All Spice pattern from Hey June based on recommendations from my Instagram friends. I wanted to make sure that we had something that was comfortable. This pattern resembles an elementary school art smock with no ties. This makes it easy to wear.
In Hey June patterns, Elise and I are in a larger size for our busts measurement than our hips. So, I went with the bust size, contrary to the pattern instructions, and that seemed perfect.

I also reduced the length of Elise’s apron straps a couple inches and shifted her pocket up to her waist. Elise is a big fan of pockets and immediately tried to put her hands in them. When I explained they were for holding things you need while cooking, she insisted I take a picture of her pockets while they are in use holding utensils.

I’d like to talk a bit more about this wonderful chambray. Obsessed would not be too strong a word for my love for it. I have made several other patterns with this and here are just a few examples

I made the Love Notions Glissando Skirt in the Red Chambray when I was testing it. This has been worn many times and is a wardrobe staple for me. I especially like to incorporate it into outfits with the holiday prints at Christmas and Valentines Day.

I hacked the Love Notions Tempo Sundress to peplum length using the Bright Peach Chambray. This is perfect for warm weather. It is one of my favorite summer tops.

More recently I made the Love Notions Harmony Blouse with Lyric Sleeves. You can read more about the process of swapping sleeves from pattern to pattern on the Love Notions blog tomorrow. Raspberry Creek Fabrics sponsored my post, so there will be lots of beautiful fabrics to see.

Elise and I are so happy with our new aprons. Proof of this is that after making these aprons, I purchased the Taupe Chambray. It is currently on my cutting table to make an apron for a close family friend.
The intent of this pattern is to make a great gift with minimal fabric. I definitely find that to be the case. I cannot imagine making it with any other fabrics but Raspberry Creek Fabrics chambray.

Join Mary as she compares and contrasts the drape of three of our woven fabrics from the shop. She sewed the same top in all three fabrics and it is so interesting to see how each one behaves differently!
