Hello, everyone! My name is Cynthia and thank you for joining me on the blog this week. We have entered into my favorite season…Fall! I love everything associated with Fall: the change of seasons, cool days and chilly evenings, the trees showing off their vivid colors, Friday night football, bonfires, and…Halloween! So many holidays are steeped in tradition and take me back to fond childhood memories. Halloween was always such a fun and exciting time for me. I think I enjoyed Halloween so much because it is a period of time when I can believe in the mysterious…more than any other time of year. The anticipation was almost unbearable! It seemed like the night when I could finally wear the costume I had so excitedly chosen (never mind that in those days the costumes were these apron-like smocks that tied in the back with plastic masks that made it almost impossible to breathe) would never arrive. We had so much fun walking around our neighborhood trying to guess which friends were behind the other plastic masks while we collected loads of candy.
As I have grown older, some traditions of my childhood have disappeared but others have simply transformed into new traditions. My children have grown, though my daughter was created in a way that doesn’t allow her mind to age as quickly as her body. She is now 27 but would still dress up and trick or treat from house to house as she did 20 years ago! So, my solution is to create a new tradition that will be just as special now as when she was younger. Over the years, I have made her costumes as well as buy her costumes.
A few years ago when I discovered custom fabric and PDF patterns, I began making a lot of our clothes. Not only is there tremendous satisfaction knowing that I made our garments, I discovered that I can be very creative and unique with the clothing I make…including Halloween apparel. Last year, my daughter and I began a new tradition of using Raspberry Creek Fabrics to create garments we could not only wear throughout the month of October, but also for years to come. We also decided we would use the very same pattern, the Be Creative Hoodie by Ellie and Mac, for our new Halloween tradition.
Last year we chose the Brooms panel and Brooms on grey stripes coordinate for our matching Halloween tops. This year’s Fall line had so many great panels and coordinates, it was a really difficult decision. Ultimately, my daughter chose the Charmed Panel with the Magic Wand and Solid Light Milk Chocolate (in the super soft cotton jersey) as coordinates for this year’s top.
Another feature that I appreciate about many of Raspberry Creek Fabrics prints are that even though it may be listed going in one direction, you don’t have to follow that direction! As I was creating her top, she stated that she preferred the wands pointing down.
We have created a new tradition that I know will feature Raspberry Creek Fabrics every year. If you would like to see many more of my creations using Raspberry Creek Fabrics, feel free to follow me on Instagram (@sewn_by_cynthia). My hope is that maybe I have inspired you to create new sewing traditions with those that you love!
