Hey hey heeey! I’m Jasmine and welcome to my first blog, ever!
I was recently selected to become a part of the Raspberry Creek Fabrics team and am SUPER excited for this opportunity! I have been a customer of Raspberry Creek Fabrics since I began my sewing journey in 2020 in the wake of the COVID Pandemic. I was desperate to regain some control over what seemed to be the eternal chaos of unknowns; and what better way to do that than to harness the power of creativity!
Sewing provided me a calm space; it became my path to see beyond the world spinning in calamity and made room for joy and happiness. Which also brought me into the world of Fabric hunting (A.k.a fabric hoarding :P). The thrill of finding new fabrics has become a guilty pleasure of mine, as I tend to look for items that “speak” to me.
This time, that fabric was this BEAUTIFUL mid-weight striped cotton Linen. Linen is best known for… WRINKLES (haha just kidding 😊) . But, for real, Linen is loved for its ability to keep the body cool and dry, especially in the warmer weather; it’s fibers absorb and release moisture relatively quickly. One of the disadvantages of pure Linen, however, is that it can be a little rough against the skin at first wear. This is usually fixed by having the linen “laundered” by the manufacturer first OR its mixed with other fibers; such as cotton! Blending cotton with linen helps to remedy Linen’s roughness without sacrificing breathability. This is exactly what Raspberry Creek Fabrics has brought to the cutting table 😉.
At first glance, this fabric looks like a simple yarn dyed stripe, BUT when you apply some good ‘ol imagination it can be transformed into a beautiful garment. When I first saw this fabric, I IMMEDIATELY knew what I wanted to make. I had envisioned a beautiful wrap cropped top with high waisted jeans, that could be easily paired with any shoe allowing it to be “dressed” up or down. I love a good versatile staple piece!
The pattern I used is a mish-mash of two; Vogue pattern V9315 and McCall pattern M7956. I loved the look of the bodice of V9315 view C, but, I wanted a sleeve that was more whimsical and M7956 view B fit my vision. When the two were combined it was magical! This top brought me ALL the “feels” and as a mom of 3, feeling beautiful and dare I say a little “sexy” is something that is typically in short supply when your wrapped up in the daily shenanigans of raising a family.
This look could not have come together without the unique look of this yarn dyed fabric. Close up, you can see all of the individual fibers within the fabric; how they are weaved together in a symphonic dance as it transforms into this uniquely textured sea of colors. It is a refreshing pause from all of the highly color and saturated graphic prints that are so popular right now. It’s nice to have fabric that will stand the test of time when all the fabric trends loose their luster. I hope you’ll enjoy this fabric as much as I have and will.

Until next time.
