Estimated Turn Around Time: 3-5 Business Days or Less

Lounge sets are still all the rage, and I think they are here to stay because they are so comfortable and easy to wear while still making you look put-together. I love lounge sets in all fabric bases, but I think my favorite for hot summer weather is a lightweight, breezy woven. Raspberry Creek has all the best wovens for making your own lounge set.
For mine, I chose a double gauze boxy shirt with elastic-waist linen slacks. I was thrilled to discover that the Dusty Mint Woven Organic Cotton Light Weight Double Gauze matched so perfectly with the Mist Dusty Green Washable Yarn Dyed Rayon Linen, Brussels Washer Linen Collection By Robert Kaufman, both of which are currently in the shop. But the pairings are endless. You can match fabrics for a monochromatic look, you can use coordinating or contrasting solids â one color for the top and another color for the bottom, or you can choose from the many patterned and striped linens currently in the shop. So many possibilities, and I am already planning my next one.Â
Double Gauze Boxy Top
Â
Â
I knew I wanted a flowy, non-structured pattern for the top, and the free (yes, FREE) Agustina Top from the We Are Fabric Store. The fit is generous for this top, which is perfect for those hot summer days. I also love wearing double gauze in the summer â it is lightweight and breathable, but not see-through. Plus, double gauze is everywhere this summer â Iâve seen it in stores and online almost everywhere womenâs clothing is sold. Check out Raspberry Creekâs collection of in-stock double gauze here.Â
This pattern would also be perfect in linen if you wanted an all-linen lounge set. I also think it would be dreamy in air-flow, swiss dot, cotton lawn, and rayon challis.Â
Linen Pants
Â
Â
My lounge set absolutely required elastic-waist pants. Who wants to wear âhardâ pants in the summer? Not me. I practically live in elastic-waist linen pants in the summer (some handmade and some ready-to-wear), but I wanted to try a new-to-me pattern, and the Free Range Slacks from Sew House Seven have been on my list for a long time.Â
I absolutely love the fit of these pants. They have just the right amount of ease, and I love the high waist and all the pockets. I made the tapered leg view, and I canât wait to try the wide leg version. They are perfect in Brussels washer linen, but they would also be lovely in the slightly more structured Essex linen or stretch linen carried in the shop. See all in-stock linen here.Â
A Few Tips & Tricks
Â
Â
My first tip for sewing with wovens is about pockets. I love pockets on a pattern, but I often struggled on placement. I have found that lots and lots of pinning is helpful. But then I struggled with pinning my garment and the pocket to my ironing board, which is where I do most of my pinning. I realized one day that my metal hem gauge (I have the Dritz Ezy-Hem, found here #affiliate) would be a solid surface under my pocket that would make pinning slick and easy. I just slide the hem gauge under my pocket and then pin, with all the pins sliding right in to my project and nothing else. It helps that the gauge is about the same size as most pockets.Â
Also, another tip is that if you donât have a hem gauge, I highly recommend for sewing wovens. It makes turning up hems, both curved and straight, so much easier and uniform. Plus you can iron right over it without any problems as you iron your hems.Â
Â
Â
My final tip has to do with a bias neckline, especially when you are sewing with double gauze. The pattern I used calls for bias tape made from the shirt fabric, but that is difficult to do with double gauze given its thickness. So, I used the linen fabric from my pants to make the bias tape, and it worked beautifully. This pattern also uses an invisible bias neckline, meaning the bias tape does not show on the right side of the fabric when you are done. So, while you can use almost any bias tape, even store-bought kind, I loved that the linen was in a matching shade and the weight of it was perfect for my neckline.Â
