Sewing with Hacci Sweater Knit with the RCF Promo Team

Our newest hacci sweater knit prints hit the shop recently.  Are you familiar with hacci?  Raspberry Creek Fabrics hacci is some of the softest knit around and we're sure you'll love it as much as we do! Today we're sharing pattern ideas and tips to make sewing up your new hacci the best experience it can be.

We added 16 new prints to our collection so there is something for everyone.  Our brushed heathered grey hacci base fabric is a poly/rayon/spandex blend that is designed to wear comfortably, wash up great, and not stretch out and sag when wearing it.  There is plenty of stretch so you can use it for bands and in garments that require at least 50% stretch.  It is brushed for softness and is a nice 8 oz. mid weight so it works for so many environments and applications.

Let's talk tips and tricks. If you're used to sewing with our CLUB jersey and french terry knits, our hacci is just as easy to sew up!  Since it's a little more substantial, the hacci tends to stay put and glide easily under your serger.  If you are using a sewing machine, a walking foot will help.  Make sure you're using ballpoint needles in your machines, this will help keep your needle from snagging and creating holes in your fabric.  I usually am a clip gal but with hacci I use pins as well to really hold it in place.  When hemming hacci, I think washaway hem tape or a glue stick will be your best friend.  It holds your hem in place and keeps it from stretching out as you sew too.  If your seams do get stretched, a good steam should put everything back in it's place (the beauty of a spandex blend).

What patterns work for this base?  The answer is just about any knit pattern works great for this hacci sweater knit.  Since it's a tighter sweater knit and it has the spandex stretch, the skies the limit!

For kids, we love a good hooded tee or hoodie pattern.  A promo team favorite is the Titchy Threads Rowan Tee. It's a great fit and an excellent unisex pattern.  For a hoodie, the Made for Mermaids Hudson Hoodie or Ellie and Mac Be Creative Hoodie are two great options with a little more detail.  Cardigans are always perfect in sweater knit and the Love Notions Boyfriend Cardigan or Patterns For Pirates Butterfly Cardigan (both have women's options as well) are good choices.  For girls, the Made for Mermaids Pepper Top, Lowland Kids Sweater Dress, and Lil Luxe Collection Palmetto Pullover are all adorable.  Don't forget rompers and bottoms!  True Bias Mini Hudson Pants or Love Notions Moto Maxx are super cute and Lowland Kids Raglan Romper is great for tiny ones.

For men, there are plenty of options too! The men's Hudson Pants, Love Notions Dockside or North Star, Thread Theory Finlayson, and Made For Mermaids Logan Hoodie are all fantastic.

Our promo team has shown you tons of women's patterns from cardigans to sweaters to joggers.  You can also sew up dresses like Made for Mermaids Juniper Jumper or Penelope Dress, pajamas such as Violette Fields Threads Gracie Set, or a cozy robe like the Love Notions Compose Robe.

Don't forget about accesories!  Hacci makes lush scarfs and perfect beanies too. Head to Patterns for Pirates and Made for Mermaids for fun free accessory patterns. The Bookish Beanie from Project Run and Play is quick and easy or the free hidden pocket scarf from Patterns for Pirates makes fantastic gifts.

We hope this post has given you the confidence and inspiration to get sewing that hacci!
