I’m here to share with you costume ideas using solids from Raspberry Creek Fabrics. RCF has so many good colors to choose from. I love using the French terry but will occasionally use the jersey if the color I am looking for is only available in jersey. Don’t be afraid to mix the two fabric types.
This year my youngest daughter chose to be a fox. I chose to make it a two-piece set for ease of bathroom breaks, plus the joggers can be worn to school as regular pants. For this costume, I used the black, white and clay French terry. The white is sewn on with wrong sides out to take advantage of the fun texture the loops make.

I started with the Dress Up Hoodie pattern from Mouse House Creations for the top, and the Joggers from Lowland Kids for the pants. You could easily use a regular hoodie pattern and look up tutorials on adding ears. I’m not a big pattern hacker, but Halloween sewing brings it out in me. Once I have the base pattern figured out, I add and take away to get the look I am going for.

I used heat and bond (#affiliate) to attach the white and black detail pieces to the clay. You can also use a glue stick if that is what you have. I then used my regular sewing machine to applique the pieces on. The eyes and nose are safety eyes I had left over from sewing my daughter a doll years ago. It gave the cute fox face a nice pop. The tail could have been left flat, but a little Poly-fil (#affiliate) gave it some good dimension.

I like to make costumes just a tad on the larger side so my kids can wear them longer (dress up) and to fit warm clothes underneath for trick-or-treating. My kids want their costumes seen and not hidden under a big coat. It gets cold here.
That’s it for the fox costume. My advice for Halloween costumes are to go for it, have fun and don’t skip the details. The details are what make a costume.
Here are some costumes from years past using RCF solids. Details were achieved with sewing machine applique and heat transfer vinyl.
