I think swimwear may be my favorite thing to sew. Probably because we practically live in our swimsuits in the summer, so they get loads of wear. For the past 5 or so years I have been sewing swimwear for not only my kids, but all my nieces and nephews.

One of my favorite swim things is to sew a swimsuit capsule. I have found having tops and bottoms that mix and match make our lives so much easier; no more struggling to get wet suits on when we hit the splash pad in the morning and pool after lunch or worrying if they’ll be dry by morning.

This year I decided my cute little niece H needed a capsule, too. One of the great things about the RCF CLUB line of fabrics is that they’re designed with coordinating prints and solids in mind. There are a few ways you can decide which solid will work the best with your desired fabric print:

I chose to use fabrics from my 2024 CLUB swim line titled Summer Blossom. I knew I loved H’s hair with the dusty olive solid, so I built her capsule with that in mind. I noticed that at least for H, one piece swimsuits don’t really work. Yes, I can blend sizes just fine, but it is so much easier to take a bathroom break (especially in public) wearing a two piece swimsuit. In the future I may add one to her capsule just because there are so many cute one piece swimming suits out there. Another thing I kept in mind, is especially since we spend so many hours in the sun and her mom is constantly reapplying sunscreen I added a long sleeve rash guard for those days that she is in the water/sun more than not.

I pulled out my tried and true patterns and made it a little easier on myself by using the same pattern twice for tops, just with a different view to keep things interesting. There are so many great swimwear patterns out there, I definitely could have kept adding more to her pile of suits.

Because the Summer Blossom prints all work together, I chose to only add in a couple solid pieces. I am excited to see what combinations H chooses to wear this summer! She had a lot of fun choosing how to wear them for this little photoshoot.
