Hey friends, it’s Amanda from LoveCraftSew on the blog today to bring you some inspiration for Spring sewing! This time of year I start craving warmer weather and lighter, flowier fabrics in my wardrobe. One of my favorite breathable fabrics for warmer weather is linen. If you don’t have any linen pieces in your wardrobe, it is a perfect fabric for classic pieces that you will wear time and time again. I decided to put together a mini capsule wardrobe that focused on linen pieces that are perfect for mix and match everyday wear.
Raspberry Creek has a large selection of linen fabrics to choose from including using linen as a base fabric for custom printing. I wanted a color that was versatile for multiple looks and decided on the denim blue colorway which mimics a jeans look. This particular linen is a 45% rayon blend which gives this fabric beautiful drape and pattern flexibility.
I also wanted to pair my linen pieces with a bright pop of Spring color that I did not currently have in my closet. I decided that coral would be the perfect complement to the denim blue. The cotton lycra fabrics are the perfect weight for everyday tanks and tops.
Once I decided on my mini capsule fabrics, I browsed my patterns for pieces that would be perfect for classic wardrobe additions in linen. I love all of my wide leg pants so I knew the Tulum pants from Styla Patterns were a perfect choice. I also wanted a skirt for once the weather warmed up and love the Rose Skorts that I have made previously from Made for Mermaids so this was a wonderful choice as well. Once my bottom pieces were chosen, I wanted to add a button down top that could be paired with either bottom and make a versatile layering piece. The Juneau Top from Styla Patterns has a slightly oversized fit that can easily be dressed up or down.
Now that my linen patterns were selected, I wanted to add two coral tops to mix and match. I knew that a more casual tank top and a dressier option would be perfect additions to this mini capsule. For my tank top I used the 24/7 Tank from Patterns for Pirates with the built in shelf bra and the wide bands option. For my dressier top I used the Estelle from Petite Stitchery with the shelf bra option as well. When sewing tops with a built in shelf bra I always add a layer of power mesh for extra support.
After all of my pattern decisions were made, I got to work creating my dream linen capsule! I ended up ordering 5 yards of linen along with 1.5 yards of cotton lycra and was able to sew up all 5 clothing pieces! I absolutely LOVE how versatile each and every piece is, how well they pair together and how much wear I will be able to get out of them. Check out the many ways I was able to style these pieces!
I hope you are inspired by this look and start planning out your linen mini capsule to welcome the Spring weather! Don’t forget to share in the Facebook group as well😊
