Hi everyone! I'm Angie and I'm excited to be on the RCF blog for the first time today, sharing how a couple of Raspberry Creek prints are helping me get ready for summer❤️🤍💙
I have been loving all the swim sews popping up in the Raspberry Creek Facebook group and on Instagram over the last several weeks. They've got me dreaming of summer, and for me, that means all things red, white, and blue! I have so many memories of summers visiting my grandparents for the 4th of July. Cousins all lined up on the curb watching the parade, a paper lunch bag full of my uncle's famous popcorn for fireworks, 3 generations singing patriotic songs on my grandparents' patio, and my mom having her girls decked out in the cutest red, white, and blue outfits... While time has changed some of these traditions for us, I never miss a chance to continue this last one with my daughter!
Searching the shop at Raspberry Creek, I came across the Red and White Stripe and the Navy and White Pin Dot and knew I had found what I needed. What a perfect patriotic combo! AND both were available in RCF's super soft double brushed polyester (I would make everything in double brushed poly if I could!). This dbp is seriously buttery soft and light weight - perfect on its own for summer, and layered for cooler months!
I wanted to use patterns that would really showcase both fabrics. Having just recently tested the Delphi top and dress from Wild Seeds Patterns (and looking for an excuse to make another!) I could already see the Red and White Stripe for the overarm band and the Navy and White Pin Dot for the bodice and sleeves. I went with the hip length top here, but the Delphi pattern also includes crop length top, knee length dress, and maxi dress options. My only modification was to cut the sleeve piece in half and hem (instead of lining) to save a bit of fabric. This left me with enough for my daughter’s coordinating top!
For her, I chose the Wild Seeds Aster pattern, a darling gathered raglan sleeve design with an optional neckline ruffle that I thought was perfect for the Red and White Stripe. After playing with scraps in just about every possible placement, I went with horizontal stripes for the neckline ruffle, and vertical for the neck binding and sleeve bands...which, of course, was what I had originally laid out😂. I even added red thread to the right needle on my coverstitch so the topstitching on the ruffle would blend right in. I modified the pattern by simply extending the bodice, and tapering it in slightly towards the bottom so it could be worn as a shirt tucked into shorts. We love how this sweet t-shirt turned out!
I made a quick belt from the scraps, and still have a little bit leftover... I'm thinking maybe a fun pair of socks and a couple hair bows, because you can never have too many😉
These RCF fabrics made super cute, comfortable tops that have been a great start to my summer sewing and a perfect way to carry on our tradition this year! We were fortunate to wear them on a recent trip to the Smoky Mountains, and can't wait to make more memories in them this July 4th, and all summer long!❤️🤍💙
Thanks for reading & Happy Sewing!
Angie
