Hey there! This is Emily of @team_orosco, and I'm so excited to share one of my favorite recent sewing projects with you - custom athletic leg sleeves that have completely transformed my daughter's basketball wardrobe! If you've got an active kid who lives in their sports gear, you're going to love this fun and functional layering hack.

I've been obsessed with using swim fabric for athletic wear lately, and for good reason. The fabric from Raspberry Creek Fabrics has incredible four-way stretch and holds up beautifully to constant wear and washing. For this project, I used the Peach leggings pattern and the Plumeria crop pattern, both from Peony Patterns (and here's a bonus: when you purchase Peach, you get the Plumeria crop pattern for free!). Instead of following the Peach pattern as-is, I got creative and cut one leg at bike short length and the other at full legging length. This asymmetrical design creates such a cool fashion statement and layers seamlessly under her basketball uniform shorts. I made a sleek black Plumeria sports top and a navy Plumeria top with red, white, and blue straps to coordinate with her team colors.

I made two versions to showcase the versatility: a patriotic red, white, and blue set that coordinates perfectly with her team uniform, and a sleek all-black version that works for practice, pickup games, or just hanging out. The swim fabric moves with her on the court, doesn't restrict her movement, and genuinely keeps her comfortable whether she's driving to the basket or playing defense. Plus, she thinks they look super cool, which in the world of pre-teen fashion is basically the ultimate seal of approval! If you're looking for a quick sewing win that your athletic kid will actually want to wear, give this project a try.
