When I think custom printing, my mind goes straight to knits, and we all know how beautiful Raspberry Creek knits are! But I don’t think their custom printing options for woven fabrics get enough attention (except for the club line wovens that we all know and love!). I decided to try out two of the lesser-used (or, from what I have seen, at least lesser-posted-about on the Facebook group) woven bases with prints from the Designer Studios. Best decision ever!
First up, tried out this beautiful print by Amymaccready on the cotton-poly poplin base. I was instantly drawn to this print because it used my very favorite colors, and I was ecstatic when I opened the package to reveal gorgeous, vibrant color. It was every bit as lovely as the image on my computer screen!
I used this fabric to sew up an Augusta dress from Little Lizard King. I only had a yard to work with, so I went with the knee-length dress. I love how it turned out. The simple design was perfect for showing off the large-scale print and bold colors, and the fabric base was great to work with for a summer dress. Plus, the cotton-poly blend means little to no wrinkling! I highly recommend for little wiggle worms like my 4-year-old!
For my second woven base, I used this gorgeous sketchy floral print by Lovely Cotton Design on the Robert Kaufman Essex linen base. I didn’t realize when I chose this print on this base that it was a match made in heaven! The slightly off-white tone of the linen with the soft colors of the design look absolutely dreamy together.
I chose one of my favorite patterns, Eden from Little Lizard King, to show off this print. Again, I chose simple options from the pattern to really let the fabric do the talking. The drape of the linen was lovely for the skirt, and the colors were perfect for the dreamy look I was aiming for. The linen sewed up beautifully and added a little bit of wow to my dress.
Maybe you are well ahead of me and have already explored RCF’s custom woven options, and I commend you for that! However, if you are like me and haven’t tried it out yet, you really should! I definitely can’t go back now that I know what I was missing!
