When I saw that Raspberry Creek Fabric started to offer custom printing, I was so excited and wanted to draw something with my kids. So I decided to draw something on Procreate to make our own design this time. (It’s $10 to buy the app, and you do need to have an apple pen.)
I started to let my son have fun first. I really love this app because I don’t need to worry about making a big mess. But just a little warning, it is too fun to stop. Not only for my kids but for me.

We finished our design and turned it into a repeat seamless file. Turning the design to a repeat seamless file is very important, because it makes the blank spaces between the repeated images less wide, less obvious and makes the print appear more natural. I didn’t save the rainbow design before I turned it into the seamless version. So I am going to use another design I made to be an example to show you the difference between a non-seamless file and a seamless file.
The first one is a non-seamless file (see the wider gaps circled in red).

The second one is a seamless file (gaps can be made more narrow or to disappear).

I’m still pretty new at making seamless files, and am planning on making more and learning to make the gap completely disappear.

My second son and I were too excited to see our design turned into the fabric so we opened the package right after we got the package.
I chose the organic cotton spandex base so the background color isn’t pure white (it’s a natural color) which I like more.
I want my three kids to have matching outfits, so I made each kid something with this print. All the patterns I used were from Lowland kids. The patterns I used were the ruffle/peplum top (I added a few inches on the skirt part so it became a dress), the racerback hoodie (without hood), and the grunge joggers.

I feel it’s a very meaningful project that I did with my kids. Are you thinking about creating your own print design, printing it onto fabric and sewing it into the clothes you like? Do it! It’s so fun and I know you will be like me to treasure this experience.
Thanks so much for reading this blog. I hope you enjoyed it. If you want to see more projects I have done, you can check my IG: littleheatcrafts.
