Hello from Wisconsin! I'm Maggie, a homemaker, homeschooling mama of 4, bibliophile and crafter at heart. You can find me at instagram.com/wiscosewn sharing my sewing adventures.
This project has been on my mind for years but I've been too intimidated to get started. My Styla Vada backpack is finally complete and I'm excited to share the process with you!
To begin I screenshot several seamless collections from the RaspberryCreek Designer studios website to create mock ups. Some sewing friends voted on their favorite design and the cactus border print from the Mesa collection by Krystal Winn won!
I printed a total of three prints on canvas that had a natural color. After they were prepped, I decided to work on a panel each day. The first day I quilted one of the pieces by adding fusible foam to the back then drawing a diamond pattern with my heat erasable pens. I also worked on the zipper panel for one of the lining panels.
The next day I finished the other inside panel with a slip pocket and the front panel.
From here I began working on the back panel that would attach the backpack straps. Since every piece was recommended to have interfacing, I applied SF101 to all pieces including the backpack strap binding. I realized it was too thick to go through the sliders so I had to unpick and remove several inches of interfacing.
After the straps were fixed, I finished the back panel by adding rivets and a fun glow in the dark adventure tag from Shine Bright Label Co. I moved right onto the backpack gusset and finished the backpack by binding it all together.
I'm so proud of this creation and I hope you are inspired to get started on that project that you can't stop imagining but have been too intimidated to start!
