Wood Violet Flower, Wisconsin State Flower, Pink Background, Purple Flowers, US State Flowers

Designed by: Erica Catherine Illustration

Apart of Erica Catherine's US State Flower Collection, the Wood Violet Violet Flower represents the State of Wisconsin. The dainty purple flower is shown on top of a pink color background.

The Wood Violet was adopted as the state flower of Wisconsin in 1909 after being selected by the state's school children. However, it was not officially designated the state flower until 1949. These flowers grow in all but 4 of the state's counties, thriving in the wet and woodland climate. In February the flowers begin to come from the once snow covered ground popping up along roadsides, riverbeds, and under tall trees. This pop of color signifies the long awaited start of the Spring for the Wisconsin locals. It is a much loved flower among the locals and represents much more to a lot of people than just a pretty flower. The Wood Violet was so well loved that a century before it was named the state flower it could be found decorating the state stamp in 1848.

Inspired by the natural and antique details that call to Erica's Old soul, she aims to bring that special spirit to all of her designs. Each drawing is created by hand using a mixture of graphite drawing with watercolor layering over the top to create the ethereal and vintage inspired work that harks back to turn of the century botanical illustration.
