Apart of Erica Catherine's US State Flower Collection, the Texas Bluebonnet Flower represents the State of Texas. The well loved Texas Bluebonnet flower is shown on top of a green color background.
The Texas Bluebonnet was adopted as the state flower of Texas in 1901. In 1971 the legislation was expanded to include all native species of Bluebonnets in the state flower title. The two main species of Bluebonnets that grow only in Texas, are Lipinus texenis and Lupinus subcarnosis earning it the special title of state flower. Named for their color and shape resembling a sunbonnet, these flower blossom in March and are in full bloom by April. The Bluebonnets can be found throughout central and south Texas through out fields, and along roadsides. We have the Highway Department in the 1930's to thank for many of the landscaping programs that are still going today to plant these beautiful blooms across the state. Every year the Department of Transportation has a wildflower program that buys and sows 30,000 pounds of wildflowers, with a large portion of that being bluebonnets.
Inspired by the natural and antique details that call to Erica's Old soul, she aims to bring that special spirit to all of her designs. Each drawing is created by hand using a mixture of graphite drawing with watercolor layering over the top to create the ethereal and vintage inspired work that harks back to turn of the century botanical illustration.
