Sagebrush Plant, Nevada State Flower, Salmon Background, Desert Plants, US State Flowers

Designed by: Erica Catherine Illustration

Apart of Erica Catherine's US State Flower Collection, the Sagebrush Plant represents the State of Nevada. The desert Sagebrush is shown on top of a salmon color background.

The Sagebrush was adopted as the state flower of Nevada in 1917. Covering the lands of Nevada, this flower is an important staple meal for wildlife. During the fall and winter when most plants have lost it's leaves the sagebrush will continue to hang onto it's leaves allowing a much needed meal for cattle and sheep alike. While it's most common heights in cities such as Las Vegas and Reno are around 3 - 6 feet, in less populated areas it can be seen reaching up to 12 feet tall! It grows so rampantly in some parts of the state that the large Sagebrush bushes have slowed cattle drives in the past. With it's large bushy branches and tendency to be truly wild, it is one of the reasons that chaps were adopted by cowboys to protect their legs as they moved through landscapes filled with these plants.

Inspired by the natural and antique details that call to Erica's Old soul, she aims to bring that special spirit to all of her designs. Each drawing is created by hand using a mixture of graphite drawing with watercolor layering over the top to create the ethereal and vintage inspired work that harks back to turn of the century botanical illustration.
