Mistletoe Plant, Oklahoma State Flower, Blue Grey Background, Winter Floral, US State Flowers

Designed by: Erica Catherine Illustration

Apart of Erica Catherine's US State Flower Collection, the Mistletoe represents the State of Oklahoma. The wintery Mistletoe plants are shown on top of a blue grey color background.

The Mistletoe was adopted as the Territorial Floral emblem in 1893, picked to showcase during the Women's congress of the Columbian World Exposition. Oklahoma at this point was not a state but still a territory at the time of appointment. The mistletoe was originally selected because the during the harsh winter the mistletoe was the only bit of color. Once Oklahoma became a State the Floral Emblem was carried over as the official state flower. In 2004, the Oklahoma Rose was named the new official state flower by Governor Henry, having the Mistletoe revert to the Floral Emblem once more. As a nod to the long lived placement of the mistletoe as the floral emblem and state flower of the Oklahoma it was added instead of the rose to this design.

Inspired by the natural and antique details that call to Erica's Old soul, she aims to bring that special spirit to all of her designs. Each drawing is created by hand using a mixture of graphite drawing with watercolor layering over the top to create the ethereal and vintage inspired work that harks back to turn of the century botanical illustration.
