They voted for the mayflower 2 to 1 over the water lily. The delicate Mayflower is a species of ground laurel and has been on the endangered list since 1925. They prefer sandy or rocky soil and tend to grow under or near evergreens. In the past the leaves of the Mayflower were collected for medicinal purposes but also because they were popular for wreath making.
