Lilac Flower, New Hampshire State Flower, Yellow Background, Purple Flowers, US State Flowers

Designed by: Erica Catherine Illustration

Apart of Erica Catherine's US State Flower Collection, the Lilac Flower represents the State of New Hampshire. The Lilac flowers are shown on top of a yellow color background.

The Lilac flower was adopted as the state flower of New Hampshire in 1919. The Lilac flower was discovered by Leon Anderson, and noted that it was imported from England and planted at the home Portsmouth home of Governor Benning Wentworth in 1750. Along with many other flowers nominated for the State Flower spot, the Pink Lady Slipper Orchid almost took the claim to fame of New Hampshire's state flower. The purple lilac ended up being declared the winner due to it's hardy nature and said to represent the hardiness of the people of New Hampshire. This beautiful plant is perfect for withstanding the winter months of New Hampshire. The lilac flower can handle up to -30 Fahrenheit temperatures during the winter months and actually won't grow as well in areas that don't experience significant frost during in the wintertime.

Inspired by the natural and antique details that call to Erica's Old soul, she aims to bring that special spirit to all of her designs. Each drawing is created by hand using a mixture of graphite drawing with watercolor layering over the top to create the ethereal and vintage inspired work that harks back to turn of the century botanical illustration.
